HOW OC CITIES CAN STOP THE CLIMATE CRISIS
Climate change is a critical issue that requires urgent action by OC governments.
OC leaders can use these policies to protect our communities.
CLIMATE ACTION PLANS
Create and implement a Climate Action Plan that is sufficiently-funded, equitable, and legally-binding
BIKEABLE, WALKABLE NEIGHBORHOODS
Prioritize development of bikeable, walkable neighborhoods with housing near jobs, shopping and public transit
PUBLIC TRANSIT
Create a public transportation network of connected buses, trolleys, and commuter rail so people have more sustainable and efficient transit choices
COMMUNITY CHOICE ENERGY
Establish or join a well-run community choice energy program to reach 100% renewable energy
EQUITY + JUSTICE
Prioritize and engage historically marginalized and disproportionately impacted communities in climate solutions
TREES
Create an urban forestry program that plants native, drought-resistant trees to reduce climate impacts and urban heat island effects
NO FALSE SOLUTIONS
Ensure the city does not pursue false solutions such as hydrogen for buildings and automobiles, which is a gas industry delay tactic according to Sierra Club, NRDC and EarthJustice
VEHICLE FLEET ELECTRIFICATION
All city vehicles (police, fire, etc.) should be all-electric
